Aranzazu Gayosso

My work over the past couple of years has been focused on a study of portraiture. It is a study of the character in the portrait as much as it is a study of portraiture itself. In my work I deconstruct the subject or character in order to present a clearer more complex and complete portrait, one that goes beyond the person's physical appearance. Each major project, which will be a part of the person's Multa Modica Faciunt Unum Satis (The Many Small Things Soon Make One of Size) and will consist of many smaller series which cross pollinate each other. During research and production new areas of interest arise and lead to the next body of work while still being consistent with the aim of the series, which in turn is guided by a questionnaire I have developed to explore the subject. This guide allows me to create inventories of fragments of "self" to then build a complete portrait of a person.
